2012-01-30 - Lithuanian GDP grew by 5.8 per cent in 2011 (MatasM)

Lithuania was one of the fastest growing countries in the EU in 2011.

Assessment: The key growth factors in 2011 were exports (manufactured goods mostly) and retail trade. It will be difficult to keep this high pace of GDP growth in 2012 because of expected mild recession in the Eurozone. This might have negative effect on country’s exports as Germany alone accounts for roughly 10 per cents of exports. Furthermore, global economic uncertainty as well as high energy prices will constrain the growth of internal demand as well. We expect Lithuanian GDP to grow by 2.5 per cent in 2012.
